The next generation of Electrophoresis Sample Handler is now available as part of Helena's integrated solution for high volume electrophoresis workloads. Like its predecessor, ESH Touch provides automated front-end specimen processing for the SPIFE 3000 with positive patient ID and interface to QuickScan Touch or LIS - but in a smaller, faster, quieter, more flexible and user-friendly package.
ESH Touch transfers samples directly from primary patient tubes to barcoded sample trays, ready for application to agarose gels by the SPIFE 3000. The expanded 100-sample capacity accommodates the largest SPIFE 3000 gels, and the touch-screen interface makes the system easy to use, including specific dilution schemes for each sample.

|Serum and Urine Proteins|
The Helena laboratories agarose gel range can accommodate different requirements for resolution and workload. Available products vary from classic five band separation of proteins, split beta separation and high resolution separation of protein fractions. The size of the gels also varies accommodating from 10 samples per gel (on the Quickgel system) to 100 samples per gel (on the SPIFE3000 system).
The gels are suitable for serum and urine gel electrophoresis.
Serum protein controls, normal and abnormal, are also available. These are lyophilized controls and are prepared from pooled human serum, for use with the SPIFE SPE Vis and Split-Beta SPE kits.

The immunofixation gels come in 2 profile for the Quickgel system, OR 3,6,9 and 15 profile gels for the SPIFE system, which accommodates a wide range of testing volumes. |SPIFE Alkaline Phosphatase Isoenzymes|
Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) isoenzymes found in human serum originate from several sources with the greatest activity found in bone, liver, intestine, and the placenta. Tissue sources of elevated alkaline phosphatase in serum can be determined by identifying the isoenzyme. The isoenzymes differ in their physicochemical and electrophoretic properties, allowing identification. In addition to liver, bone, intestinal and placental isoenzymes, macrohepatic, Regan, PA, Nagao, and renal isoenzymes have been identified. These isoenzymes can be identified using the SPIFE analyser. SPIFE ALP agarose gels have a unique additive in the gel matrix to ensure separation of macrohepatic from liver and bone fractions. Sample pre-treatment with neuraminidase provides greater separation. Up to 40 samples per gel can be assayed with less than 5 minutes hands-on time.

|SPIFE CK Isoenzymes|
A new visible CK Isoenzyme assay is now available for the SPIFE electrophoresis system. SPIFE provides full automation of this assay with automated sample application, reagent application and separation. Up to 40 samples can be separated into the traditional MM, MB and BB fractions in 65 minutes. Smaller 10 and 20 sample sized kits are also available. CK Isoenzyme analysis is well established for documenting myocardial injury and electrophoresis is the reference method. There are fewer false positives, fewer repeat tests, identification of atypicals and visual confirmation of results. SPIFE’s automation makes isoenzyme testing as easy as any immunochemical or chemistry analyser method.

|SPIFE LD Isoenzymes|
The SPIFE LD Isoenzyme and new QuickGel LD for SPIFE take full advantage of the automated reagent application, sample application and separation of the SPIFE electrophoresis analyser. Up to 60 samples can be separated into the traditional five LD fractions in 77 minutes with complete automation.
Electrophoresis is the method of choice for LD isoenzyme analysis. LD isoenzymes are useful in diagnosis of pulmonary infarction and hepatic congestion as well as a late marker of myocardial injury.

|SPIFE Alkaline Hemoglobin and Acid Haemoglobin Kits|
Separations with SPIFE Alkaline Haemoglobin mimic classic cellulose acetate and are the front line for detecting haemoglobinopathies. Use of acid blue stain provides excellent sensitivity and linearity. Precise temperature control improves separation, resolving even problematic Haemoglobin H.
SPIFE Acid Haemoglobin is a much less cumbersome method than conventional citrate agar for characterizing haemoglobinopathies. The use of acid blue stain brings linearity not available with O-Tolidine or O-Dianisidine based systems. Finished gels are stable in storage and will not continue to darken.

Advances in lipid research and availability of new therapies continue to make accurate lipoprotein phenotyping essential. SPIFE Lipo separates lipoproteins into alpha, pre-beta and beta lipoproteins as well as chylomicrons. Precise temperature control results in crisp, clear separations.
